Adrian Tan quoted in BT: “Free apps: To allow or not to allow? That is the question”
On 24 April 2021, TSMP Law Corporation head of IP & TMT Adrian Tan was quoted in an article published in the Business Times about privacy concerns when you provide personal data to “free” apps.
He says that users have to be very careful when downloading apps.
He also commented “Once you download and use the app, you will be deemed to have agreed to the terms and conditions. If the app is hacked, and your personal data is compromised, there is usually very little recourse for users. There is no point in suing the hackers, as you may not even know who the hackers are, and where they are located. As for suing the app itself, there will usually be some terms and conditions which allow the app to exclude liability and responsibility for such hacking.”
