
In a news story published by the Business Times on 6 May 2019 on how employers should support employees suffering from cancer, head of employment and labour Ian Lim said: “Illness in and of itself should not be grounds for termination of employment, unless the illness affects the employee’s ability to do his or her job. An employee who is dismissed not because of poor performance but on account of illness alone may potentially have grounds for a wrongful dismissal claim, with the scope for such claims having expanded under the Employment Act amendments which came into force on Apr 1 this year.”
