TSMP joint managing partner Stefanie Yuen Thio was quoted in a 9 November 2020 LHZB article on the proposal for the government to fund a public defenders’ office (PDO).

She said that there will have to be clarity between what cases CLAS and the PDO will do.

“CLAS does excellent work, fuelled by the crusading zeal of its many legal volunteers. But there are never enough resources so having a dedicated agency that would work in tandem with the existing structures would be welcome.”

“What would be ideal is a whole-of-industry solution, with an effective working partnership between the legal profession and the PDO.”
