Stefanie Yuen Thio Mentioned in Eco-Business: “Singapore-Listed Firms See Record Corporate Governance Scores; CDL Falls From Top 10”
Features Stefanie Yuen Thio
Stefanie Yuen Thio was mentioned in Eco-Business by Gabrielle See. An ESG-focused trade publication, Eco-Business published an article on the announcement of the SGTI scorecard, quoting Stefanie on the back of the panel at the launch of the results on August 13. Stefanie is quoted in her capacity as both joint managing partner at TSMP Law and member of the MAS Corporate Governance Advisory Committee, where she chairs the sub-committee reviewing its code of governance.
Stefanie asked how many of these awards are being given to firms that can afford good third-party service providers to help with their reporting, opining that small business owners currently have too many obligations. She noted that the boards of SMEs typically only appoint one accountant or ex-banker and one lawyer, and are hence not well-equipped to deal with cybersecurity, sustainability and ESG.
On the addition of financial metrics from 2026, Stefanie cautioned against only using purely financial metrics that favour already profitable companies at the expense of those in high-growth, emerging sectors that might currently be loss-making, as it may discourage those companies to list in Singapore.
