We traded court documents and corporate contracts for icebreakers, candid discussions, and bowling shoes. For our latest bi-annual Handprint community outreach event, our staff stepped away from their desks to spend the day with beneficiaries from Boys’ Town.

For us, service has always been an essential part of leadership. Whether we are offering pro bono legal advice or simply a helping hand, Handprint is our way of leaving a mark beyond commercial law, transforming privilege into active stewardship. It isn’t about ticking a corporate social responsibility box or collecting good PR points; it is about showing up for our community in a real, personal way.

This day has been months in the making, with our team actively organizing the logistics and curriculum since early 2026. But our relationship with Boys’ Town actually goes back much further than a few months of planning. We first collaborated with them on a Handprint project in 2009. Today, that connection is stronger than ever. Our partner Jennifer Chia serves as the company secretary for Boys’ Town, keeping us closely tied to their mission and needs throughout the year.

We started the morning right here at the TSMP office with a series of icebreakers to get everyone comfortable. Once the initial shyness wore off, we moved into short, informative talks on digital and social topics that hit close to home for young people today. Together, we discussed the realities of cyberbullying, anti-vaping efforts, and how to handle peer pressure.

These weren’t stiff, academic lectures. Instead, they were open, two-way conversations. The beneficiaries shared the daily pressures they face online and at school, and we offered practical insights from our own lives and legal backgrounds. We wanted to provide a safe space where they felt heard, while giving them useful tools to navigate these modern challenges safely.

After a healthy communal lunch by Grain in our office, we headed out to SAFRA Yishun for a fun afternoon on the bowling lanes. On the lanes, any remaining corporate hierarchy and social barriers completely disappeared. Partners, senior associates, and the youth spent the afternoon cheering each other on, celebrating strikes, laughing over gutter balls, and exchanging stories between frames. The goals for the day were straightforward: bonding, sharing, and ensuring everyone had a good time together.

Before we said our goodbyes, every beneficiary walked away with an adidas shoe bag and a $50 JD Sports gift card to help them out with their sports and lifestyle needs.

Taking a full day away from our billable hours is a significant commitment for a commercial law firm, but the energy, laughter, and connections built yesterday made it entirely worth it. We hope the youth took as much away from the day as our team did. Handprint always reminds us that while our legal skills are valuable, our time and human connection are what truly make a lasting difference.
