TSMP Law Corporation head of employment and labour Ian Lim was quoted in a 15 January 2021 Lianhe Zaobao article about safety lapses at the now-defunct Underwater World. He represents the company in a District Court case.
He said that the post-mortem had previously determined that this was a tragic accident, and the charge did not point out that Underwater World’s negligence caused this fatal accident to occur.
He also commented that Underwater World has never had such an accident during its business hours and has maintained a good safety and health record. After the incident, the company actively cooperated with the authorities in the investigation and chose to plead guilty. Therefore, it is hoped that the judge will set a lower fine of S$40,000.
