As businesses and government begin to tap on Big Data analytics to formulate policy and strategies, there is a growing need for a new social contract to protect people’s privacy.
TSMP’s head of employment & labour, Mr Ian Lim, commented on the personal data protection regime in Singapore, “The Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) only specifies what can and cannot be done with the information, and when informed consent is required”. He added, “The question of actual ownership of personal data or Big Data is a complex and involved issue at law that has not been fully answered to date.”
