Construction firm involved in HDB projects accused of owing subcons SGD1m
What legal options do subcontractors have should main contractors default on payment? The Straits Times interviewed Melvin Chan, partner in our Construction & Engineering Practice, for his opinion. “Legally, the quickest way for subcontractors to try and recover the money is by taking out an adjudication application under the SOP Act,” said Melvin Chan. “But practically, if the contractor has no money or assets, or is effectively insolvent, there’s not much the subcontractors can do to recover the funds.”
