Stephanie Chew was quoted in The Business Times by Ranamita Chakraborty.
The online article, also published in print on Sat, 5 Oct (p. 6 & 7), highlighted the restrictions a Permanent Resident (PR) in Singapore would be subject to if he was convicted of a crime; this was in relation to the news that Ong Beng Seng would be charged in court on Friday 4 October in relation to the Iswaran case. Ranamita’s article explained whether Ong Beng Seng can remain as Hotel Properties director if he is convicted.
Stephanie was quoted sharing how Singapore PRs may have their PR status affected if they are convicted of a criminal offence, given that Ong is one. Unlike citizenship, she notes that being a PR is not a permanent status, and authorities retain the discretion on whether to revoke an individual’s PR status through a complex and multifactorial exercise.
