Joshua Phang Named Among Asia’s Top 40 Lawyers Under 40 by Asian Legal Business
Features Joshua Phang
Director Joshua Phang has been named one of Asia’s top 40 lawyers under 40 by the legal publication Asian Legal Business.
The annual list is chosen from more than 400 nominees. They work in areas including disputes, international arbitration and corporate law. Each nominee was assessed on the quality of their work, recommendations from clients and colleagues, and their potential for future growth.
Joshua specialises in complex commercial litigation, international arbitration and investor-state disputes. He regularly acts for sovereign states, multinational corporations, global audit firms and ultra-high-net-worth individuals in high-stakes disputes.
The listing recognised his work over the past year, in which he achieved significant results in several major cross-border cases. These include:
- NextEra Energy Global Holdings BV and another v Kingdom of Spain: Joshua acted for the investors. The court dismissed Spain’s challenge to a €290 million award. This was Singapore’s first reported court decision on state immunity in the registration and enforcement of an International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes award.
- Castel Group: Joshua represented the heiress of the Castel Group in complex shareholder and trust proceedings involving billions in global assets that have been making headlines worldwide.
Joshua is also a co-author of Economic Torts in Singapore, the first textbook on the subject in Singapore.
We congratulate Joshua on his achievement.
