Co-written with Sharon See, the article on the Iswaran case threw light on how it may deter private-sector individuals from taking public appointments (p. 2).

The article includes Stefanie’s comments on Section 165, where it is not clearly outlined when a private-sector board member’s activities are circumscribed by their duties as a public servant. Her example of a real estate CEO who sits on the board of a statutory board is used to support this. She is also quoted saying that Iswaran’s case has far-reaching implications that could dampen the activities of the private sector in the community. She notes that engaging public-private partnerships require a certain level of informal engagements for discussions, feedback and building relationships, and clamping down on such activities may deter them from doing so.
