Stefanie Yuen Thio was quoted in Lianhe Zaobao by Ng Jun Xian.

In his article (p. 13), Stefanie was quoted in her capacity as Chairwoman of SHE, saying that marital rape might be more common than expected as being raped by one’s spouse can be a humiliating experience that is difficult to talk about. Reporting it can affect the rest of the family, and it can be difficult to prove that one did not consent to the sexual act.

Stefanie recommended that women who are sexually assaulted by their spouses should go to a safe place as soon as possible, report the case and get tested, emphasising that though they may want to take a shower, the relevant clothing should be retained as evidence.

She also mentioned that more people need to be aware of the different procedures for making complaints and how to resolve conflicts and stress in relationships without resorting to violence.
