TSMP’s Stand on Responsible AI Use Featured by The Business Times, Picked Up by Major Media
Features Stefanie Yuen Thio
Stefanie Yuen Thio was quoted by The Business Times as a legal expert on GenAI violations in the legal profession. The article was pegged to a recent landmark High Court decision ordering a lawyer to personally pay $800 in costs for citing a hallucinated case. It appeared on both the newspaper’s website and in print.
The piece reported that law firms generally view breaches of AI guidelines as grave disciplinary matters, with repercussions ranging from restricted tool access to dismissal.
At TSMP, Stefanie highlighted that a key plank of the firm’s AI policy is that lawyers must continue to meet their professional responsibilities. Lawyers who violate this policy are in breach of employment terms, with “attendant consequences”, she noted.
She added that TSMP holds weekly team meetings and monthly firm-wide sessions to share experiences using AI and surface issues. Given that legal AI is still nascent, responsible leadership requires a hands-on approach to implementation.
The article was subsequently syndicated by multiple publications, including Singapore Law Watch, The New Paper and The Straits Times. The Straits Times carried the piece online and in print, and selected Stefanie’s quote as a pull-out in the print edition.
