The Singapore Government has appointed our Joint Managing Partner, Stefanie Yuen Thio, as Singapore’s Representative to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR). Stefanie, has since February 2025, served as Singapore’s Alternate Representative to the AICHR.
The AICHR is ASEAN’s overarching human rights body, responsible for promoting and protecting human rights in the region. Its areas of work include women’s empowerment, corporate social responsibility and environmental protection.
The appointment builds on Stefanie’s work in women’s advocacy and online safety. In 2022, she founded
SG Her Empowerment (SHE), which subsequently established SHECARES, Singapore’s first dedicated support centre for targets of
online harms.
Her work in civil society organisations includes being a board member in the Community Foundation of Singapore, Smile Asia and Dover Park Hospice.
Stefanie’s advocacy work has also contributed to discussions on Singapore’s online safety framework, including the Online Safety (Relief and Accountability) Bill where she was a member of the Ministry of Law’s Steering Committee.
Her AICHR appointment follows her recent receipt of the DEI Outstanding Contribution Award from leading legal directory Chambers and Partners, recognising her contributions to law firm leadership, corporate governance, philanthropy and advocacy against online harms.
