Stefanie Yuen Thio was wrote an op-ed for The Straits Times, in her capacity as the chairperson of SG Her Empowerment (SHE). She shared a snapshot of social media comments on women candidates in the recent GE2025 compiled by SHE, which showed that women candidates were subject to toxic comments based on their gender.

Stefanie outlined some steps to make politics more representative, including asking media outlets to audit how they’ve covered women in past elections; and how political parties should have internal codes of conduct against gender bias, protective media training for female candidates to counter harassment, and response teams to report and counter online attacks so they’re not fighting alone.
